Uninsured/PHI Doesn't Cover Bariatric Surgery

You are still eligible for our comprehensive program, but:

  • You will self-fund your hospital stay, theatre costs, and medical fees
  • Anaesthetist fees may be slightly higher for uninsured patients
  • Your final costs will be individualised based on the procedure type and hospital requirements

While we recommend patients consider joining PHI and waiting the required period before undergoing surgery, many of our patients proceed without PHI—using personal savings, accessing their superannuation, or using their partner’s/carer's superannuation to fund the surgery.

Estimated Out-of-Pocket Cost (for Self-Funded Sleeve Gastrectomy):

While exact costs vary, an uninsured patient undergoing a Sleeve Gastrectomy with a 2-night hospital stay in a standard ward bed can expect an estimated total out-of-pocket cost of approximately $18,000.

This includes:

  • Hospital stay and operating theatre
  • Surgeon, assistant surgeon, and anaesthetist fees
  • Our comprehensive bariatric program, which includes:
  • Two years of scheduled, bulk-billed follow-up appointments with your bariatric surgeon
  • The opportunity to book appointments with our bariatric dietitian throughout your follow-up period

Why Our Comprehensive Program Matters:

We believe that ongoing support and regular follow-up are key to long-term weight loss success. Our structured program—with face-to-face reviews, dietitian input, and dedicated bariatric team care—is designed to give you the best chance of achieving and maintaining your goals.
